In the pace of life, it is easy to ignore the harbingers of things to come. It is especially so younger in life with a developing family. When you get older you pay more attention and when you get older experience tends to give you hints of future expectations.
So is the case with ageing and so is the case with Baby Boomers, of which I am one of them. The attached article describes the environment we currently have with an ageing population in coping with retirement and beyond and it will only get worse. The costs of alternative accommodation are rising as is the cost of care.
Many people who live in their own home have been fortunate to have significant value appreciation and they want to stay in that environment independently or with family/supplemental care. Unfortunately, the cost of doing that is also rising in increased taxes, maintenance and/or home care costs.
Because I am a mortgage broker and have been so for 30+ years, I have been able to be in a position to analyze people's alternatives from a financing standpoint. I must admit, for many years, I did not consider a Reverse Mortgage as a viable financing instrument, for many reasons, most of which were myths and misinformation I chose to believe, rather than research.
I then chose to become a Reverse Mortgage Specialist to be able to compare the features/benefits of a reverse Mortgage against a conventional HELOC. There are reasons for both, but the growth in interest in Reverse Mortgages for a variety of purposes is directly related to the problems outlined in this article that seniors face. Last year alone saw a 32% increase in people accessing this financing tool.
I then created a four-part video series that people can explore in the comfort of their homes that covers every question, myth and fact about Reverse Mortgages so they can get the right information. I am a senior, so I have a better understanding and a unique perspective in viewing a person or couple's needs in light of the financing alternatives available to them.the video series will be of interest to anyone over 55 considering their future options. It will be of interest to anyone currently 68-80 years old who are looking for alternatives to help them stay in their home. It will also be of interest to families who are facing taking care of ageing parents
Selling their home and moving into retirement accommodation or an apartment are certainly options, but they are other options in a Reverse Mortgage that may be better.
