Roo Wyda
Roo’s family traces their Canadian roots back to the late 1880’s. Two times Great Aunt Amanda immigrated to Canada and married a Toronto Hotelier. The two, with their young family, eventually made their way to Vancouver. In Vancouver they owned and operated the Strand Hotel, as well as the Duker and Shaw Ad Agency. The Strand Hotel and Restaurant took up half a city block downtown, next door to where Birk’s stands today. Duker and Shaw Ad Agency was responsible for many of the billboard ads around town in the early 1900’s.
Prior to becoming a Mortgage Broker, Roo was a stockbroker for over a decade. She was licensed in both Canada and the United States and worked with Private Family Offices.
Always active in the community, Roo volunteered with Search and Rescue for over six years. She is the Recipient of a Province of British Columbia Acknowledgement for Contributing to Public Safety for her work with search and resuce. More recently she was a member of the West Vancouver Police Board where she served as both a Board Member as well as Chair of the Human Resources and Governance Committee. There she had the pleasure of working with the six other Board Members to recruit and hire West Vancouver's current Chief of Police.
Today Roo lives in West Vancouver with her family. When she is not arranging mortgages for clients she can be found riding, hiking, and snowboarding on the local mountains.
